Roy Hargrove
Roy Hargrove and his new quintet perform for a radio show in December 2009.
Check this out if you had any doubts about the new group. As I have said before, you know the music is happening when Roy is smiling and bouncing around, and there is plenty of that in this clip.
Maria and I saw the quintet perform at the Jazz Showcase on New Year's Day. It was an excellent way to start the year! Roy was looking rather natty, and with the glasses he's looking a lot like Diz in the 50's. It was a very good show, not the best I've seen him do, but that's a very high bar indeed. A normal mix of up-tempo bop and ballads. The club was overflowing, which is always nice to see.
