iPod Reset

My good old iPod Click Wheel is a couple years old and practically a museum piece by now. It has served me quite well. Lately though it had been forming a personality: upon completing a song, it would sometimes reprise a half second from the middle of the song (mildly annoying); or right in the middle of one song it would skip ahead to the next song (intensely annoying, and yes the lock switch was on).

One day a couple weeks ago, having just sync'd it, the iPod forgot it had any music on it at all. Half a block from home, and facing the real possibility of no music or podcasts for an entire day, I returned home. I quickly selected a couple smallish playlists that would get me through, and sync'd again. That evening, I decided it was time to try the Restore button in iTunes. Alas, to complete the restore, you then need to plug in the power adapter, and mine was at work. The next day I was truly tunes-free on both commutes, a sad experience. Then that evening and the next I resync'd all the essential playlists.

Life is good again. I am still getting the occasional reprise at the end of a song, but the random fast-forwarding has stopped for now.
