Lunar Eclipse
Wednesday night the sky was perfectly clear. I knew the moon was full so I looked out the window at it before helping Ella to bed. I saw that part of the moon was dark, so I thought there must be a partial lunar eclipse. I showed it to Ella and explained what was happening, expecting it to be gone in a few minutes. After Ella was in bed I looked again, and saw that the eclipse was nearly complete. Wow! I got Ella back out of bed, then we looked at the moon some more and googled “lunar eclipse”. The first link to space.com was toast, so we tried Wikipedia and learned that the complete eclipse would last nearly an hour. Ella really seemed to enjoy it. I told her the next total lunar eclipse was in two years, and she figured out how old she will be and what grade she will be in then.

Jon and I watched it with Jordan. Really beautiful. Thankfully, we had a great view of it out of our front window. (It was really cold that night, as it usually is when it's clear out.) I especially liked seeing the moon turn red when it went into total eclipse. So strange to see it disappear, and then moments later reappear all red. Like someone turned on a neon sign.
